Cheap Birthday Parties in Spartanburg: 10 great birthday party ideas that won’t break the bank

Outdoor Ideas  – Rent a space at a local park

Tyger River Park, located in Duncan, has picnic shelters that rent at the starting price of $75 for three hours of time.  Not only is there a fabulous state-of-the-art playground area, but the splash pad is open in the spring and summer, too.  Not the time of year to get wet?  Besides the free playground, you can rent an hour inside the batting cages for an additional $20.

Cleveland Park, located off of Asheville Highway, is another great local park option.  The Birthday Pavilion rents for $50 for four hours and the Playground Barn, a charming four-walled structure next to the playground rents for $100 for four hours.

Happy Hollow Park, one of the City of Spartanburg’s parks, is the perfect park venue for smaller children.  Sheltered picnic tables are within easy view of the play area, so children can safely go back and forth while staying under the watchful eyes of the adults.  Since Happy Hollow is a shady park, this might be an ideal location for birthdays that fall in the warmer months.

Plan a hiking adventure

Older children and friends might enjoy an adult-led hike followed by a picnic-style cake celebration.  Croft State Park is $3 per adult, kids age 6-15 are $1, and kids 5 and under are free. Shelter rentals for groups are between $25-55 for the whole day. Reserve a shelter and plan your hike. The Cottonwood Trail has picnic tables located on the other side of the bridge that crosses Lawson’s Ford Creek. Have an adult hike ahead to set up the picnic for the party guests’ arrival. Just make sure to bag up any trash and carry it out with you for disposal.

Plan a treasure hunt at Hatcher Garden Nature Preserve

Self-guided group tours are free at Hatcher Garden, which is the perfect spot for a treasure hunt with its paved trails.  Check out Pinterest and lifestyle blogs for creative treasure hunt ideas including fun themes, maps, and goodie bag prizes at the end.  Hatcher has the option of covered or uncovered picnic tables, too.

Indoor ideas for birthday celebrations on a budget

Kids love to dress up!  So plan a costume party and create a homemade photo booth with props from home, DIY creations, or purchase a relatively inexpensive photo booth pack from Party City, Target, or Wal-mart.  This idea would be perfect either right before or right after Halloween when kids have costumes on the brain, but really any time of year is the right time of year for make-believe!

Not sure you want 15 kiddos running around your house?  That brings us to our next idea!

Rent your own bounce house.  Many inflatable companies run specials during the winter or different promotions throughout the year or on weekdays versus weekends.  While the average daily rental is around $125-$200, keeping an eye out for these special deals can help fit a bounce house or super slide into your party budget.

And remember, sharing your child’s special day with another birthday buddy can help keep your costs to a minimum.  Splitting the cost of a party or rental with a friend that has a birthday at the same time of year is a cost-efficient way to keep your child’s celebration to $100 dollars or less.

We had a birthday party at Pelicans Snowballs in Reidville. They reserved tables for us, and the only cost was the snowballs! We brought our own cake and supplies, and cleaned up after ourselves, but it was a fun and inexpensive party.
