Back in 2012, two friends Bethany Winston and Susan McClure had a big idea to create an online resource to help families in Greenville to find fun things to do as a family and also find the information they needed to enjoy life in the Upstate. This idea culminated in the first articles on Kidding Around, a review of Boo in the Zoo that featured not just the event details but those also those hard-to-find details parents needed to know like “how much candy” and “will my 3 year-old have fun”. Kidding Around started in Greenville and quickly grew to be families’ go-to source for area information.
In 2013, Bethany took over ownership of Kidding Around Greenville. By late 2014, she had added several local contributors and the demand for advertising was so high that there was a waiting list. Over the next few years Kidding Around began to serve in the hundred thousands of local readers with it’s high-quality local content.
Bethany moved to Spartanburg County in the fall of 2015 and recognized that her new home was underserved with online content such as she had created for the Greenville community. Rather than just create a sub-category for Spartanburg content on her Greenville site she made the decision to pour resources into a separate Spartanburg sister site. This site now has thousands of readers each month and publishes weekly content from local parent contributors.
