Going out to eat is a fun way to spend time with the family, but it can quickly turn sour if you don’t go to a restaurant that accommodates the children. There are quite a few restaurants in Spartanburg that are geared directly towards the kids, but let’s face it, parents are usually ready to leave the pizza-arcade filled restaurants the second they walk in the door. Here’s a list of five restaurants in Spartanburg that don’t skip a beat when it comes to accommodating both parents and the children.
Restaurants kids and parents will love
1498 W. O. Ezell Boulevard
Spartanburg, SC 29301
The main reason you go to a restaurant is to eat of course! The kid’s menu at Olive Garden has a great selection of food, even for the picky eaters. Does your child want “spaghetti” with Alfredo sauce, but spaghetti noodles aren’t as easy as rotini noodles for them to eat? That’s okay! The kid’s menu allows you (or your child) to choose which type of pasta they want along with the sauce. Aside from pasta, they also have other kid-friendly options, such as sliders, pizza, and chicken fingers. They even offer gluten-sensitive options if your child has diet restrictions. Not that technology is encouraged at the dinner table, but while you’re waiting for your food and everyone has already got their fill on bread sticks and salad, the kids can get impatient waiting for their meal. Olive Garden has tablets at each table, and while these tablets have other intended purposes, they do have games on them to help keep their bottoms in their seat.
143 Fernwood Drive
Spartanburg, SC 29307
With a laid-back atmosphere, this is a restaurant that both parents and kids alike will enjoy. Outdoor seating is offered, because sometimes fresh air can make all the difference for the kids. One of the best things about this restaurant is their kid’s menu. Pasta, grilled cheese, hotdogs, mini burger, chicken tenders, and quesadillas make up the menu, and the side choices make the plate! Some of the sides include apple sauce, steamed veggies, and a kid’s salad, baked potato, macaroni and cheese, and fries (and that’s just some of them)! Ever go out to eat and your child ONLY eats their side and not the entrée? Hickory Tavern has the perfect option where you can “pick 3 sides” as their kid’s meal. What a great option when they just can’t decide between all the great side options!
1646 John B White Sr Blvd.
Spartanburg, SC 29301
Mom and dad want to go to a steakhouse, but bring the kids to one? No worries, mate! Head over to Outback Steakhouse, a steakhouse that caters to both parents and the children. With a kid’s menu full of activities to do (they even provide the crayons), you might have to remind them to decide what they want to eat. This kid’s menu offers a lot more than your typical chicken fingers and French fries. Grilled chicken on the Barbie, junior ribs, and even a 5-oz. sirloin steak are some of the options your child can chose from. The food names even have some fun flair to them, like the “Boomerang Cheeseburger,” which fits right in with the restaurants Australian outback theme. They keep their sides simple with only a few options, fruit, a veggie, or fries, but that’s no problem, because the entrée seems to take all the attention on this menu. Does your family usually start off the meal with an appetizer? The Bloomin’ Onion isn’t only tasty, but fun to look at, which may add some amusement to your child’s meal.

Applebee’s is a good go-to choice to make when your family wants to go out to eat, but can’t decide where. Their menu offers something for everyone, and their kid’s menu is no exception. Chicken? Macaroni and cheese? Chicken AND macaroni and cheese? (yes, they have an entrée that has both). Also offering a 4-oz. sirloin, corn dogs, mini burgers, and grilled cheese, it’s almost as if Applebee’s let children themselves create the kid’s menu. The kid’s menu is on an activity sheet, and crayons are provided to keep the kids busy while they are waiting. Another added bonus: kid’s 12 and under eat free, with an adult purchase, on Tuesday evenings from 4 pm to close.

Eastside: 1935 East Main St. Spartanburg, SC 29307
Panera Bread is a great option for dining out with kids. Order as soon as you arrive and your meal will be ready with very little wait time. You children can choose from a bowl of one of their soups or salads. A variety of sandwiches are available on the kid’s menu, from something as fancy as a ‘Napa almond chicken sandwich’ to a simple PB&J. Yummy side choices include a yogurt stick, fruit, or a piece of their freshly baked bread. Panera Bread is a great option to take the kids to because here, the process of eating out isn’t as lengthy as some of the “a host/hostess will seat you” restaurants. Put the cherry on top of the sundae for your child with a cookie, by stopping by their bakery before you leave and let them pick out their own dessert.
It really isn’t too difficult to plan a dinner out for your family in Spartanburg that appeals to the palate of everyone in the family. There are plenty of options available to make sure everyone leaves satisfied and in a good mood.
