Things to Do in January in Spartanburg

January at the Library

LEGO Block PartyOn January 14, 2019 and January 28, 2019 at 4:30 pm, families are invited to a LEGO Block Party at Cyrill-Westside Library. This family-friendly event even includes a special area for those under 4 years old.

Did you know the Spartanburg County Public Libraries host 25 storytimes regularly at their various branches? Check out their storytime hours to find the right time for the ages of your kids.

Movies at the Spartanburg County Library

  • Flix for Teens – On January 12, 2019 at 3:00 pm, teens are invited to Headquarters Library to vote on a movie to watch at this Saturday matinee!
  • Small Foot – On January 14, 2019 at 3:30 pm, kids 5 – 11 years old are invited to Inman Library to watch Small Foot.
  • Build and Watch: The Lego Movie – On January 31, 2019 at 6:30 pm, build some Legos at the Cyrill-Westside Library while they screen the original The Lego Movie.

January Family-Friendly Shows & Sports

Swamp Rabbits Hockey Games are fun for the whole family – especially on game nights with special promotions. Here are our favorite Swamp Rabbit promotion events in January:

  • Nickelodeon Rocket Power Night – January 5, 2019 vs. Worcester Railers
  • Autism Awareness Day – January 6, 2019 vs. Worcester Railers
  • Stomper’s Birthday Party – January 27, 2019 vs. Stomper’s Birthday

Your little gymnastic won’t want to miss the upcoming Furman Classic Gymnastics Competition on January 18 – 20, 2019.

SC International Auto Show rolls into the TD Convention Center January 11 – 13, 2019. Kids 12 and under are free. Tickets are $5 – 8.

The Harlem Globetrotters are headed to Bon Secours Wellness Arena on January 12, 2019.

You can see South Carolina Children’s Theatre’s Mr. Popper’s Penguins at the Peace Center’s Gunter Theater January 26, 2019 – February 3, 2019.

Free Things to Do with Kids in January

Home Depot Kids’ Workshop – Head to Home Depot on January 5, 2019 between 9 am – 12 pm to build a free easel with a whiteboard.

Story Time at Barnes & Noble (W.O. Ozell Boulevard) happens each Saturday in January at 11 am.

A Winter Chautauqua featuring Deborah Sampson will take place on January 17, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Headquarters Library.

Little Sprouts Day Out at Headquarters Library on January 11th and 12th at 11:30 am. Families and their littles can explore the library’s stimulation stations designed to promote conversation between parents and their children. Families with children aged birth to three are welcome to make crafts, laughs, and memories in the Storytime room while engaging in imaginative play.

Superhero Family Night at Cyrill-Westside Library on January 17, 2019 at 6:00 pm. Come dressed as your favorite superhero for a family fun night filled with “super” fun activities, snacks, and crafts.

Even More Fun Things to Do in January

Cowpens National Battlefield Anniversary Celebration. This annual event commemorating the Battle of Cowpens is the weekend of January 19, 2019. It is free and open to the public.

Toddler Time (ages under 7) at Big Air Spartanburg returns after school resumes each Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am – 1 pm. Jumpers are only $8 for the entire 3 hours!

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, ages 6 and under can jump at Preschool Jump at Pump It Up in Spartanburg from 10 am – 2 pm. This is a great time to take your small children since older children are not allowed in the venue. *Returns after school resumes*

Skate, Rock, and Stroll a Disability Friendly Time on the Big Ice takes place on January 4, 2019 and January 21, 2019 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Guests can go out on the ice in a wheelchair or walker, be pulled around the ice on a sled or in a wagon, walk on the ice or try your hand at ice skating! Volunteers from the Greater Greenville Hockey Association will be available to assist with guests as needed.

TCMU MLK Jr. Day Camp for kids 3 – 6 years old on January 21, 2019 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Have a mom or dad’s morning out while your kids have a morning to learn about dinosaurs and play at the children’s museum. There is a fee for this day camp.

An Unbirthday Party on January 12, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Once Upon a Dream Parties. Your princess will arrive at our royal table to decorate her very own cupcake, and of course blow out her unbirthday candle! The celebration will continue with a game, dancing, and fun photos. $12.

Don’t miss Stroller Rollers at Upward Star Center. This program allows parents to exercise with their stroller and is an excellent place to make friends. Classes are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 am. The first class is free.

Friday Starry Nights returns to Roper Mountain Science Center January 11, 2019! Enjoy special planetarium shows Friday nights.  6:00 pm – Legends of the Night Sky: Orion | 7:30 pm – Exploding Universe ($6.00 for adults | $5.00 for children 4-12 years old | Children 3 and under – FREE)
